Miodrag Tasic by Raphaël Monticelli"Miodrag Tasic" by Raphaël Monticelli

editions du Ricochet, 1997published by Ricochet, 1997

"The figures of Miodrag Tasic will never stop teaching you. You're going to live with their absence and question him or her day after day ; you walk out of your life to large areas that you believe once and for all calm and bright and taste them to be a strangeness of unknown ; you will come up against in their questioning and stubborn, to the conversations they will incur no truce between them and the other people in the world, with their songs lonely, raucous, such as mistuned, their breathing short. New joy and new concern, happiness and unhappiness, mixed, the work of an artist is born. "

"Miodrag Tasic's figures will never cease to intrigue you. You experience their abstraction and question it day after day. You will leave your greater existence – that will once and for all seem calm and brighter – and get the flavour of just how very odd and unusual they are. Their stubborn curiosity will astound you, their incessant conversations with each other and everyone else around, their lonely, hoarse and discordant songs, their breathlessness. Arousing new feelings of delight and unease, with a mixture of good luck and misfortune, an artist's work is born. "

Surprise, certainly, from the reserve often, the aversion may be, the attraction also : the range of feelings experienced during a first encounter with the bronzes of Miodrag Tasic is deployed widely. These statues do not leave anyone indifferent, as they emit a uncanny, as they set up the doubt in each of us : have they been inspired by human models? These "inanimate objects" can't exist a day? The representations of the face and the human body naked, in fact, the mirror in which our self-centeredness can not help but see a reflection of ourselves, real, dreamed or repressed. A silent dialogue is established between the sculpture and the viewer. Like poetry, the statue reminds us of something essential, which could well be the consciousness of our own physical reality. What emotion, what a vision, what message the artist is he trying to make happen? In the Face of these bronzes here we are bothered, not only in our perception but also in our cultural, even in our conceptual foundations.

“Miodrag Tasic : the art of the flesh” by Gérard Clétil

The Future – Côte d'azur, 1998

"Human, all too human, characters in flesh and rising rising on tiptoes, or hanging on a wire. The weight of the years is here and the folds of the skin are all scars on the body in a state of fat. But the heaviness of these beings is never unbearable. "

The Future – Côte d'azur, 1998

"Human , just too human. Characters in flesh and bone standing on tiptoe gold hanging from a thread. There hangs the weight of years and the wrinkles that are the stigmata of these greaseful bodies. But the heaviness of these creatures is never a burden. "

Tasic receives us in his studio in Marseille, in the heart of the popular district of la Belle de Mai, Boulevard National.

The workshop this is the place where are created all of these human figures, created by the sculptor.
Here the work is performed according to the rules of the oldest of the sculptures, which date back to the Antiquity : working with the lost wax technique, creating the work in wax, and then manufacturing footprint, which will allow the wax mould, which will be used in the foundry casting the bronze.

In the middle of the bronzes, the story of creations of waxes, dust, some pieces of body, arms, feet waiting, work tables, workbenches, numerous tools, a scheduling meticulous who presides over the mystery of what is happening.
We are in the house of the Art in the old sense, in the sense the Renaissance of the term but also in the sense of extremely contemporary of the word. The work of TASIC feeds of this mix between a classical, volume, relief, figurative and escape delirious towards the dream, the imagination of a universe completely unknown to them.
His immense technical expertise, his mastery of gesture, the magic of a creation which shows wrinkles, folds, twists, boursoufle forced a skin and body : of these meanders, these forms, of flesh are born these creatures : works of art One can think of the links of filiation, with artists such as Cellini, Bellmer, or the nearest to us Caesar, or even a painter like Bacon : reliance is a magical, alchemical membership across time. Is this not what Malraux called Art. The sculpture of TASIC gives life.
